According to a scientific study, most of us take better care of our
swimming pools than our bodies. I think that this usually arises due to a
lack of education – or sometimes too much education, since in our
modern society there are so many theories on how to properly nourish
our bodies to achieve the ‘fastest weight loss’ or ‘lose three inches’ by
the next week. Amidst these tales, it is refreshing to hear a healthy
weight loss plan that does not require any drastic changes and yet is
scientifically proven to encourage weight loss and healthy well-being.
As Dr. Robert Young states: “We’re not overweight – we’re over-acid!”
The Creation of Fat Cells
Through countless bodily processes, the food we eat is broken down so
that necessary nutrients can be extracted for growth and repair. All foods,
when metabolized, also contain acidic or alkaline properties that affect the
body. While alkaline, or "basic" foods help to oxygenate the body, excess
acidity is a danger to vital internal organs. Fat cells are formed in order to
carry detrimental acids away from the organs that keep us alive. However,
by alkalizing our systems, our bodies don't need to form and hold
on to this fat!
We have all heard that successful weight loss is
achieved by gradually making changes in one’s lifestyle rather than
following a certain “fad diet”. Regulating the body’s pH level is certainly
a way of life, and is a proven theory that has been around since the
beginning of the 20th century, even though it has just recently begun to
establish itself in many countries. While “alkalizing your body” may sound
daunting, there is actually no need for apprehension! The following three
tips are basic in terms of both simplicity.. and alkalinity!
1. Incorporate more alkaline foods into your diet.
The foods that are most effective in neutralizing internal acids are fruits and
green, leafy vegetables. It is a common misconception that foods that
taste sour must be acidic – lemons and limes, for example, are alkaline
because the end-products extracted from them by the processes of
digestion are basic. However, animal proteins such as chicken, pork
and beef add acidity, as do sugars and processed carbohydrates such as
white breads. As a general rule of thumb, your diet should ideally consist
of a ratio of ¾ basic foods to ¼ acidic foods in order to keep one’s system
at a consistent, non-acidic pH.
2. Drink alkaline water.
Our bodies consist of 75% water, so it is not surprising that good hydration
is a key to maintaining a strong and healthy system. However, most of us
don’t usually give the water that we drink a second thought, and this has a
drastic effect upon our health. As Dr. Robert Young states: “Our body is only
as healthy as the water it is bathed in.” The fact is that drinks that are staples
of many peoples’ diets tend to be acidic. It takes 32 glasses of alkaline water
to neutralize the acid from one 12 oz. soda such as Coca-Cola, which has a pH
of 2. Coffee is not much better at a pH of 4. Even the tap water and filtered
waters that we drink are usually acidic, so if we drink the recommended eight
cups per day – how can we expect acidic water to adequately replenish our
parched bodies?!
Water ionizers can provide you with water at a basic pH that will literally wash away the fat cells parked on one’s hips, thighs, stomachs,
and even brains! As easy to install and use as a common water filter, they will
make all the difference to your health and long-term weight loss goals.
3. Don’t over-exercise.
One of the reasons that exercise is so beneficial is that when we sweat, we
eliminate acids from our bodies through perspiration. However, when we
exercise excessively, lactic acid – a waste product of energy production – is
produced, and if it is not properly whisked away by the bloodstream, it will
remain within our bodies. One way of ensuring that we rid ourselves of these
wastes is to cool down for at least five to eight minutes after each work out,
or until the heart rate is back to normal. Otherwise, the length of your workout
should be judged by your fitness level – start with however long is comfortable
while keeping your heart rate up, and add to your original time as necessary –
listen to your body! Keeping yourself hydrated properly (with alkaline water)
will also contribute greatly to your energy levels and reduce the amount of
lactic acid in the bloodstream.
Testimonials have shown that altering something as simple as the water that
you drink, or adding more alkaline foods to your diet can result in weight loss
of up to one pound per day. Losing weight requires nothing more than ‘basic’
knowledge!
